## FAQ

### Does this plugin require any external service?

Yes. For API-based platforms, the plugin connects to third-party review services
such as Google, Facebook, Yelp, and others using your provided API credentials to
fetch review data. See the **External Services** section for full details.

### Which platforms are supported?

The plugin currently supports 11 platforms with official API integrations: Google,
Facebook, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Trustpilot, Glassdoor, G2, Apple App Store, Google
Play, WooCommerce, and WordPress.org. Reviews are fetched from the respective platform
APIs.

### Can I display reviews from multiple platforms on one page?

Yes. Create a separate feed for each platform and place the generated shortcodes
anywhere on your website.

### How many card styles are available?

There are 4 card styles: Classic Card, Bubble Card, Minimal List, and Popup Grid.
All styles are responsive, support dark mode, and work with both Grid and Slider
layouts.

### What’s the difference between Grid, Slider, and Badge?

**Grid** and **Slider** display individual reviews using any of the 4 available
card styles. Grid arranges reviews in columns, while Slider displays them in a horizontal
carousel with navigation arrows and autoplay support.

**Badge** displays a compact aggregate rating instead of individual reviews, including
the average star rating and review count. Badge is available in Card and Banner
styles.

### Does the plugin support dark mode?

Yes. Dark mode can be enabled individually for each feed from the feed editor settings.

### Can I filter reviews by star rating?

Yes. You can set a minimum star rating from 1 to 5 to display only reviews that
meet your selected rating.

### Does the plugin cache API responses?

Yes. The plugin uses WordPress transients to cache review data, helping reduce API
requests and improve frontend performance. Cache duration can be configured from
the global settings.

### What happens when I uninstall the plugin?

The plugin includes a cleanup option for uninstalling. If **Clear data on uninstall**
is enabled in Settings, all stored feeds, reviews, and plugin settings will be permanently
deleted. By default, your data is preserved.

### Is this plugin beginner-friendly?

Yes. The 3-step feed creation process, **Choose Platform Name Feed Connect API**,
makes it easy to create review feeds without coding knowledge.

### Can I preview the feed before publishing?

Yes. The feed editor includes a live preview panel that lets you preview your review
feed across desktop, tablet, and mobile viewports before publishing.

## Changelog

#### 1.4.1 (09/10/2026)

 * Changed: The Styles tab in Set up Widget is now free for everyone (it was a locked
   Pro tab in 1.6.1).
 * New: Spacing controls in Styles: Column Gap and Row Gap (px, em or rem) for the
gap between cards in the Grid layout, with the Live Preview updating as you change
them. Minimal List now has Spacing too.
 * Fixed: Style colours now also apply to the Slider layout.
 * Changed: Card widths now follow the chosen gap. Default gaps are unchanged, so
   existing widgets look the same.

#### 1.6.1 (20/09/2026)

 * Fixed: Review Filters “Only Show Review” mode wasn’t being saved, so the feed
silently went back to “Only Hide Review” after a reload. The choice now persists
and applies on the front end.
 * Fixed: Uninstall cleanup now lives in one place (uninstall.php). It now honours“
Preserve settings”, and also removes cached reviews, preview posts and the plugin’s
internal flags when “Clear data on uninstall” is on.
 * Fixed: Quick Support widget colours now come from the plugin’s theme variables
   instead of hard-coded values.
 * New: Custom Reviews (Pro) – a new feed type in Create a New Feed for entering
your own reviews. Shown as your own customer reviews, without a platform logo
   or Review structured data.
 * Changed: Set up Widget now uses a side tab rail (Layout, Styles, Enhancements)
instead of the top buttons. Styles is a locked Pro tab for now.
 * Changed: Completed steps in the wizard use a deeper green.
 * Changed: Insert Code step redesigned: Shortcode / PHP Snippet tabs, embed options(
create a draft page, Elementor, PHP template) and a feed diagnostics card.
 * Changed: Back and Next now sit in the sticky top bar so you never scroll to find
them, and the active step number has a soft glow.
 * Changed: Set up Widget’s Layout tab redesigned as collapsible accordion sections
with a segmented Layout / Styles / Enhancements tab bar and a Live Preview toggle.
 * Fixed: Set up Widget’s accordion, tab bar and card corners now use the plugin’s
own rounded-corner size instead of a larger one.
 * Fixed: The Live Preview strip now switches to a dark backdrop when the feed’s
Dark Mode setting is on, so card text stays readable.
 * Changed: Removed the “Set up Widget” page heading and the icon/description under
each Layout tab section and card, for a cleaner look.

#### 1.6.0 (07/09/2026)

 * New: Quick Support – a floating in-admin help widget (Get Free Support, What’s
New, Facebook community, feature/bug suggestions, and a Free/Pro Captain Tools
Ecosystem browser), matching the plugin’s own theme and branding.
 * New: White Label Menu Visibility can now also hide the Quick Support widget.
 * Changed: White Label hiding the White Label menu item itself is now a separate,
clearly-labelled toggle (with a confirmation prompt) instead of living in the
general “hide menu items” list – that list could otherwise be used to accidentally
hide the very page needed to undo it.
 * Fixed: White Label Menu Visibility dropdown could get visually clipped by its
own section instead of showing all items.
 * Changed: White Label now shows its full settings screen to free users too (all
fields disabled, behind a “Pro Feature” overlay) instead of a generic upsell
card, so it’s clear exactly what Pro unlocks.

#### 1.5.2 (26/08/2026)

 * Fixed: Pro Feature Lock Overflow: The “AI Summary is a Pro Feature” lock card
could be taller than the (short) blurred section it sat on top of, causing it
to visually spill outside its own card into the sections above/below. The lock
card is now more compact and its container has a guaranteed minimum height, so
it always stays within its own section.

#### 1.5.1 (25/08/2026)

 * Changed: AI Summary is now a Pro feature. The Anthropic API key / language fields
in Settings AI Summary and the Generate Summary button in the feed editor are
shown in a locked “Pro Feature” preview for free users; upgrading to Captain
Social Review Pro unlocks them exactly as before. Already-saved API keys are
not deleted, just no longer used until Pro is active.

#### 1.3.0 (18/08/2026)

 * Improved: Set the Default Number of Reviews to 6.
 * Improved : Our Products Page Design and User Interface.
 * Fixed: Review Count Issue While Fetching Reviews.
 * Fixed: Front-end Column Issue in Layout 3 (Minimal List)
 * Fixed: Dark Mode Switch Issue Not Working Properly
 * Fixed: Duplicate Time Display Issue in All Layout
 * Fixed: Minor Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements

#### 1.2.0 (15/08/2026)

 * New: Last Modified : Added an info icon to the Actions column showing the feed’s
   last-saved timestamp on hover.
 * New: Help & Support Page: Quick links to Documentation, Support, and plugin rating.
 * New: FAQ Section: Added FAQs to the Help page, accessible from the sidebar’s “
   Help” link.
 * Changed: “Add New Feed” button renamed to “Create New Feed” across the dashboard.
 * Changed: “Global Settings” page title renamed to “Settings”.
 * Changed: WordPress admin menu label shortened from “Captain Social Review” to“
   Social Review”.
 * Changed: Facebook “Page Access Token” field is no longer masked like a password,
so you can verify what you pasted.
 * Changed: Removed the Back button on the Create Feed screen for a cleaner single-
path flow, and tightened the spacing below the “SOCIAL REVIEW FEED” badge.
 * Changed: “Manage Reviews” Replaced with “Review Filters”: The old per-review
show/hide card is replaced with a searchable multi-select “Review Filters” list–
check the reviews you want visible, uncheck the ones you want hidden, with a
live “visible / hidden” count. Same underlying hide/show data, new interface.
 * Changed: Set up Widget Order: Layout and Extra Options now appear at the top
of the Set up Widget step, followed by Review Filters, the star-rating Filter,
AI Summary, and Feed Details last – so AI Summary now sits directly above Feed
   Details.
 * Removed: Live Preview Feature: Removed the “Open Preview” action button from
the feeds list, along with the entire ?captsrw_preview=ID preview-page mechanism(
query var registration, preview asset enqueueing, and the standalone preview
page renderer). The feed list, edit wizard, and shortcode/Elementor/Gutenberg
output are unaffected – only the separate preview-page popout is gone.
 * Fixed: Sidebar Losing Its Fixed Position: The sidebar navigation now uses a reliably
fixed position while scrolling, on every screen size.
 * Fixed: No Scroll Reset on Navigation: The app now automatically scrolls back
to the top of the page whenever you navigate to a different screen – no more
manual scrolling up after clicking a menu item.
 * Fixed: Collapsed Sidebar “Extra Options” Highlight: In the collapsed icon-rail
sidebar, the active-page highlight for Help / Roll Back / Our Products now matches
the width and shape of the main navigation items instead of rendering as a mismatched,
   narrower pill.
 * Fixed: “No Reviews Fetched Yet” Messaging: The Select Layout preview now distinguishes
between “not connected yet” and “connected, but reviews haven’t synced” instead
of always showing the same generic message, with a shortcut button back to Connect
   Account.
 * Fixed: WordPress Admin Menu Icon Sizing: The plugin’s own icon in the WP admin
   sidebar was rendering smaller and off-centre compared to other plugin icons;
   corrected its sizing and alignment.
 * Fixed: Feeds list layout – removed an unnecessary width cap on the shortcode
column and left-aligned the platform column.

#### 1.2.5 (12/08/2026)

   Details.

#### 1.2.4 (12/08/2026)

 * Removed: Live Preview Feature: Removed the “Open Preview” action button from
the feeds list, along with the entire ?captsrw_preview=ID preview-page mechanism(
query var registration, preview asset enqueueing, and the standalone preview
page renderer). The feed list, edit wizard, and shortcode/Elementor/Gutenberg
output are unaffected – only the separate preview-page popout is gone.
 * New: Last Modified Info Icon: Added an info icon to the Actions column in the
feeds list. Hovering it shows a “Last Modified” tooltip with the feed’s last-
   saved timestamp.

#### 1.2.3 (11/08/2026)

 * Fixed: Dark Mode Toggle Reverting on Reload: The per-feed Dark Mode toggle in
Set up Widget Layout was stored as the string ‘0’/’1′. JavaScript treats the
string ‘0’ as truthy, so after a page reload the toggle displayed as “on” again
even when it had been saved as off. Dark mode is now stored as a real boolean,
matching the other Extra Options toggles.

#### 1.2.2 (11/08/2026)

 * Fixed: Display Toggles Not Persisting: The “Show Review Date”, “Show Platform
Badge”, “Show Avatar”, and “Show Review Link” toggles were being silently stripped
out on save because the server-side settings sanitizer had no whitelist entries
for these four keys, so any change reverted back to “on” after a page reload.
The sanitizer now accepts and stores these as real booleans.

#### 1.2.1 (11/08/2026)

 * Fixed: Display Toggles Not Applying: The “Show Review Date”, “Show Platform Badge”,“
Show Avatar”, and “Show Review Link” toggles in Set up Widget Extra Options
were saved but never actually read when rendering the shortcode output, so reviews
always displayed with all four elements regardless of the toggle state. All four
card styles (Classic, Bubble, Minimal List, Popup Grid) and the Popup Grid’s
read-more modal now correctly hide/show each element based on these settings.

#### 1.1.0 (07/07/2026)

 * New: Gutenberg Block Support: Editors can now insert review feed shortcodes directly
from the block editor using a convenient feed-picker dropdown.
 * New: Elementor Widget Support: Added a native Elementor widget that renders any
review feed. It automatically loads only when Elementor is active.
 * New: AI-Powered Review Summaries: Integrated Anthropic Claude to auto-generate
summaries of your reviews. Configurable from the global Settings page, it currently
supports 8 languages (en, hi, es, fr, de, ar, pt, ja).
 * New: Review Moderation: Easily hide or unhide individual reviews from the shortcode
output without deleting them. Moderation states are stored per-feed and fully
   synced with the cache system.
 * New: Token Health Monitor: Added a daily WP-Cron job that checks Facebook token
expiration across all feeds. It displays a dismissible admin notice when a token
expires or is within 30 days of expiration. Also includes a manual “Check Token
Health” button in the API Credentials page for all platforms.
 * New: Rollback Page: Introduced a dedicated admin dashboard page (/rollback) to
let you revert to any previous version directly from the WordPress.org plugin
repository. For security, download URLs are strictly validated to ensure they
   originate from downloads.wordpress.org.
 * New: Error Boundary: Implemented a React error boundary wrapper around the entire
admin app to capture errors gracefully and prevent white-screen crashes from
   breaking the UI.
 * Improvements: Redesigned Edit Review Page: Replaced old horizontal text tabs
with an intuitive vertical icon-tab layout. The Design, API Connection, Display,
Moderate, and AI Summary tabs now feature dedicated icons and labels for better
   usability.
 * Improvements: Enhanced Moderation View: Added a visible/hidden review counter
in the new Moderate tab to easily track how many reviews are currently displayed
   versus hidden.
 * Improvements: Style Preview Icons: Added dynamic mini card previews in the Design
tab for each card style (Classic Card, Bubble Card, Minimal List, Popup Grid).
 * Improvements: Full Translation Readiness (i18n): Wrapped all user-facing strings(
including titles, descriptions, intros, notes, tips, URL/badge labels, navigation,
and settings) in __() localisation functions using the captain-social-review
   text domain.
 * Improvements: Optimised Dark Mode Handling: Improved dark mode transitions on
the edit review page by utilizing a memoized useThemeVars hook paired with a
MutationObserver. CSS variables are now resolved only when the theme actually
changes, cutting down on redundant performance overhead.
 * Improvements: Settings Option Key Update: Updated the global settings option
key from captsrw_settings to captsrw_global_settings to prevent potential naming
   conflicts.
 * Improvements: Code Quality: Standardised code formatting, spacing, alignment,
and import paths across multiple JSX and SCSS files.
 * Fixed: Performance Lag: Eliminated repetitive getComputedStyle() calls that were
triggering on every single render of StylePreviewIcon and PreviewCard components.
These are now efficiently handled once via the memoized useThemeVars hook.
 * Fixed: Layout Alignment: Adjusted .captsrw-app-main-content margin-left from
220px to 0 to fix spacing and layout issues caused by the new vertical tab navigation.
 * Fixed: Card Style Fixes: Updated Style-1 card CSS with improved layout, alignment,
   and spacing.
