## Description

Downloadyar Remote Media moves your uploaded media (images, audio, video and documents)
from your WordPress server to a separate **download host** over FTP or FTPS, then
rewrites every media URL on your site so visitors load files straight from that
host. This keeps your main server light and your storage free, while your media
stays available under your own domain.

You stay in full control: it connects only to the host **you** configure, with the
credentials you provide. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

#### What it does

 * Transfers new uploads to your remote host automatically.
 * Migrates your existing media library to the remote host in resumable batches.
 * Rewrites attachment, content, and `srcset` URLs to the remote host on the front
   end.
 * Lets you choose which file types to offload: images, audio, video, documents
   and archives.
 * Optionally keeps a local copy, or removes local files after a successful transfer.
 * One-click database sync to switch existing media URLs to (or back from) the download
   host.
 * Removes an item’s files from the remote host when you delete it from the Media
   Library.
 * Built-in FTP diagnostics that test your connection and generate a ready-to-send
support ticket for your host if something fails.

The plugin is fully functional: FTP and FTPS offloading, URL rewriting, database
sync and diagnostics are all included, with no accounts, license keys or external
services.

it from your WordPress dashboard under **Plugins Add New**.
 2. Activate the plugin through the **Plugins** screen.
 3. Go to **Host Connector** in the admin menu.
 4. On the **Connection** tab, enter your remote host details (server, username, password,
port, download host URL and path).
 5. Use the **Diagnostics** tab to confirm the connection works.
 6. On the **Files** tab, choose which file types to offload.

## FAQ

### What is a “download host”?

Any server you control that can serve files over HTTP and accepts FTP/FTPS uploads—
a second hosting account, a storage VPS, or a dedicated file server. The plugin
uploads your media there and points your site’s URLs at it.

### Does the plugin send my data to a third party?

No. The free version connects only to the remote host you configure, using the credentials
you enter. It makes no other outbound requests.

### Will it work with my existing media library?

Yes. Open the **Migrate** tab and click **Start migration** to transfer everything
already in your library to the download host, in small resumable batches. Then run**
Database Sync to download host** to switch existing post content over to the new
URLs. If you use a page builder, gallery plugin or store image URLs in widgets,
tick **Thorough sync** first so custom fields and options are rewritten too. Always
back up your database first.

### My uploads connect but fail to transfer. What’s wrong?

Often the FTP login works but the data connection or write path does not. Check
that **FTP path** is relative to the FTP account home after login (not a URL). On
DirectAdmin it is often like `domains/dl.example.com/public_html/uploads`. Also
confirm the download-host account has free disk quota — a full disk blocks folder
create and uploads. Run **Diagnostics** (and Deep transfer probe) for details and
a support ticket if needed.

### Which files does the plugin delete from the remote host?

Only the files of a Media Library item you delete: its main file, generated image
sizes, the original kept by big-image scaling, and image-editor backups. Each one
is looked up at the same location inside your **FTP path** where uploads are stored,
and only deleted if it exists there. Files of other plugins, themes or WordPress
itself are never touched. Every remote deletion is recorded on the **Logs** tab.
A failed deletion shows an admin notice with the exact remote path and attachment
ID.

### 󠀁[Simple and reliable FTP offloader](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/simple-and-reliable-ftp-offloader/)󠁿

Perfect plugin if you want to offload your media library to a separate download
server via FTP. It automatically handles the URL rewrites (even for srcset) on the
frontend without any bloat. Love that it includes a one-click database sync to revert
things back if needed. No external service accounts or license keys required—just
pure functionality.

## Changelog

#### 1.2.2

 * Fixed a fatal “Maximum call stack size reached” error (HTTP 500) in the Customizer
and anywhere else WordPress looks up an attachment by URL. The remote-URL lookup
filter received the wrong arguments and called itself endlessly.
 * Fixed remote deletions reaching beyond the plugin’s own files. The plugin used
to react to every file deletion on the site, including other plugins’ and themes’
files, and tried to delete a matching path on the remote host. That caused repeated“
Failed to delete a file from the remote host” notices. Remote files are now deleted
only when you delete a media library item, and only that item’s own files (main
file, generated sizes, original and edit backups) inside your FTP path.
 * Fixed the plugin stopping WordPress and other plugins from deleting files while
it was active. With “Keep a copy on this server” off, local copies are now removed
after a successful upload, as intended.
 * Failed remote deletions now name the exact remote path and attachment ID. Successful
remote deletions are written to the log.

#### 1.2.1

 * Clearer **FTP path** help text (path relative to FTP home / PWD; DirectAdmin-
   style examples).
 * Stronger FTP transfer path handling (create remote folders segment-by-segment;
fail closed when a transfer cannot complete).
 * Diagnostics: show FTP home listing, suggest common DirectAdmin paths, mkdir test,
and a **Deep transfer probe** that uses the same upload path as the Media Library.

#### 1.2.0

 * New: **Thorough database sync**. The Database tab now has a “Thorough sync” option
that, in addition to post content, rewrites URLs in post excerpts, custom fields
and options — the places page builders, galleries, widgets and the Customizer
store image URLs. Serialized data is unpacked, rewritten and repacked safely
   so it is never corrupted.
 * The default content-only sync is unchanged; tick the box only when you need the
   wider pass.

#### 1.1.0

 * New: **Migrate existing library**. A new Migrate tab transfers media that was
already in your library to the download host, in small batches that run over
AJAX so they never time out. Progress is saved per file, so the migration can
be stopped and resumed at any time, and it follows your “Keep a copy on this
   server” setting.
 * Added support for more file types: AVIF, HEIC/HEIF images; MOV, MKV and AVI video;
AAC and FLAC audio; and RTF, TXT, 7z and gz documents/archives.

#### 1.0.3

 * Fixed the **FTP path** and **URL directory** settings being ignored. Uploads
now go to the FTP path you set, and public URLs (including the database sync)
use the URL directory you set, instead of both always defaulting to `dl-files`.
Previously the FTP path field had no effect and both operations used a single
   value.
 * The two path fields now do what their labels say: **FTP path** controls where
files are stored on the remote host, **URL directory** controls the segment added
to your download host URL. This also makes the Diagnostics FTP test match where
   files are actually uploaded.

#### 1.0.2

 * Fixed a fatal error (“Undefined constant FS_CONNECT_TIMEOUT”) that could occur
when testing the connection or saving settings on some hosts. The FTP timeout
constants are now defined by the plugin, so the workaround of adding them to
   wp-config.php is no longer needed.

#### 1.0.1

 * Reliability: large files now stream straight to the remote host instead of being
read fully into memory, preventing out-of-memory errors on big uploads.
 * Failed transfers are now retried automatically (configurable on the Connection
   tab).
 * Background failures (image thumbnails and remote deletions) now surface as a
dismissible admin notice instead of failing silently.

#### 1.0.0

 * Initial public release on WordPress.org.
 * FTP and FTPS media offloading.
 * Automatic media URL rewriting (attachments, content and srcset).
 * Selectable file types: images, audio, video, documents and archives.
 * Database synchronisation (to and from the download host).
 * Remote file deletion synced with the media library.
 * Built-in FTP diagnostics with support-ticket generation.
 * Modern, responsive, translation-ready admin dashboard (English and Persian).
