Allows you to easily manage the frequency of the WordPress heartbeat API with just a few dropdowns.
The heartbeat API can be disabled entirely and allowed for only specific dashboard locations.
Heartbeat intervals can be modified between 15 and 60 seconds between requests, saving on server resources.
- Upload the plugin folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
- Activate Heartbeat Control on the Plugins page.
- Adjust any settings within Settings > Heartbeat Control.
- Dow do I change my settings?
All options are located within Tools > Heartbeat Control.
- Why would I want to change the default heartbeat intervals
If you commonly leave your WordPress admin up for long periods of time, especially while writing or editing a post, the repeated POST requests can cause high resource usage. To avoid this, the heartbeat can be modified or even disabled to lower your server resource usage.
Thanks for making a super simple plugin that has immediate results. My websites perform measurably better when it’s heartbeat is ticking properly.
simple and useful!
I never wanted to use this plugin… other plugins shouldn’t abuse the heartbeat and cause crazy admin-ajax loads, but they do…
Sure I could use a filter, but then it’d be a hassle to play with and see how it affects server load. Yay for this plugin!
I don´t think developers are aware of how often automatic ajax requests are made when editing post and pages. I was not, and been working with WP in many years. When I stumbled upon working with ajaxStart function, my executed function started to tinder like a chrismas tree while doing NOTHING on my edit post page.
After blaming WordPress of “calling home”, I realize that it might be a default “nice” new thing by the core, expecting everyone using a brand new Laptop with powerful CPU.
This plugin with simple setting of extend the timer, as I did to one minute, made a huge diffrent in latency while working with editing post!
Cleaning up wordpress is getting a bigger issue year after year. The core might be updated with smarter and more effective query handling etc etc, but at the same time – the core is added with more “on top” and “visual level” functionalities that actually makes the WordPress a slower enviroment after “update”.
My heart is beat’n for this Heartbeat plugin.
Thanks for an elegant contribution to the WP life.
