# Welcome

**WordPress** is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a
focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless
at the same time.

More simply, WordPress is what you use when you want to work with your blogging
software, not fight it.

And now you can use your favourite web software in Canadian English, or something
closer to it anyway. The Canadian English edition is virtually the same WordPress
the world has come to love with a few additional language files to make your experience
more Canadian.

The core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers, and when you’re
ready for more there are thousands of [plugins](https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/)
and [themes](https://en-ca.wordpress.org/themes/) available to transform your site
into almost anything you can imagine. Over 60 million people have chosen WordPress
to power the place on the web they call “home” — we’d love you to join the family.
